Having given the old porker a quick wash we could finally get down to the nitty gritty of the car, and see exactly how big a cock up I had made buying a 38 year old sports car .... Again this little motor was full of surprises in that there were very few surprises ... Her shell was solid , the engine was running and there were only a few small patches of rust to deal with , one on the nearside roof gutter and a hole in the rear wing by the sill , even the lift out targa roof seals were fine and very little leakage , the sunroof drains were clear and even the engine bay drains were'nt rusted up.
So the saturday was spent first with a mission to halfords for waxes to get the car buffer on to the paint which was already looking good but with a good t-cut and some auto glym super resin polish I could see this car had the potential to be truly stunning. I got stuck in ... three hours later i had killed a car buffer but the car looked awesome , the shine you could see your face in so it was a case of finish off the mot bits on the sunday.

Sunday comes and im up at stupid o clock again , first off back to get some more petrol , I would say since she had not yet had her mot that i was responsible and took the works car down for the gogo juice ... but i'd be lying , I could'nt resist taking the porsche so since it was only a few hundred metres away she got back on the road ..... Immediately I felt at home with this car , steerings hard at low speeds so plan ahead to point her nose roadwards , then open the throttle gently ... next thing i know she's bloody running ahead of me , this little things quicker than i gave her credit for , so I eased up and got her topped off with some petrol and return to the driveway to do some proper work.
After scaring myself with her turn of speed I got everything else checked out , every switch worked , her brakes worked fine and all lights signalled , lit and blinked as needed .. so i took the decision to put her in for a pre mot to test the water for fail faults ... booked in and drove her to the garage the following day and walked away expecting a massive list of faults.

I got a phone call the following day to say she would fail so do i want to carry out the work with them or collect the car , i asked how much to sort the issues and they said all pipes needed replacing and that the calipers needed replacing ... strange i thought since they looked fine in their original enamel and worked great for me ... anyway £400 was being bandied about as cost so car got collected by me , driving home i thought id try the brakes out ... they felt fine to me , pipes likewise were fine so I put it down to a garage seeing the porsche logo and getting greedy thinking i'd pay it.
The following day i took her down to pj motors in my home town to an old neighbour and he said he'

d sort it out , 2 hours later she was mot'd and the only small niggle was a slightly binding caliper , total cost including mot of £70 and no advisories ... result so with a porsche finally taxed , tested , insured and running i became the first one in the johnson family to own a porsche.
